Born in 1984 in Tampa, Florida, Tony Galloway is a mixed media painter whose work blurs the boundary between painting and collage. Collage, screenprinted materials, rhinestones, reflective tape and other materials and objects are imbedded into the paint creating a richly textured surface. This experimental technique allows him to incorporate various media that reflect the content and mood of the paintings and broaden the scope of materials to be utilized.
He has had an ongoing interest with post-apocalyptic novels and movies, and this can be viewed in his work. This genre is often depicted gloomily, but one of his interests is to find the positive aspects of this situation. His paintings show a time in the indeterminate future after the end of the world when the new inhabitants are happily starting a new society. It’s a viewpoint that is influenced by existentialist thought.
